George

We have a new baby at home --- a 2-month old male pup, cross-bred (pitbull-labrador). I named him George as a tribute to O'Malley of Grey's Anatomy ;p

And if I were to pick out names for future pets from the other tv shows I love -

F.R.I.E.N.D.S. - Phoebe
Saturday Night Live - Ferrell
Frasier - Eddie (the Jack Russell Terrier named "Moose" in real life; the dog's a canine actor, btw)
Ally McBeal - John Cage (the guy who can't control nose-whistling when nervous lol).
Sex and the City - Stanford (the gay guy)
Boston Legal - Denny (silly and obnoxious but endearing; oh, but I heart Allan Shore. it just doesn't seem right to name a dog after my crush. lol).

Anyways, back to what I really wanted to say: Welcome to the family, George!

VMV

"GOOD DAY! VMV Hypoallergenics in SM North Edsa will be having a 25% discount on selected items Oct. 17 and 18, 2008 plus additional 10% in every 1000 purchase..."

If you're going to catch the last day of the sale today, I highly recommend that you try to get the following:

Hydra Balance Smart Moisturiser - it's fragrance-free, preservative-free, non-comedogenic and with monolaurin. Even kids aged 9 and above can use it!

Armada Face Cover 45 - it's a sunscreen and it works so darn well. it's non-greasy and it definitely lightens the skin. try the other products from the armada line. the reviews are all positive.

Glykeros Lift Off Treatment Comfort Cleansing Creme + Glykeros Lift Treatment Toning Essence + Glykeros Lift Primer First Formula - you can buy this as a set to get the best results but if you don't want to buy the 3, just get the Lift Primer. this is vmv's introduction to microdermabrasion plus cellular revitalization therapy. yes, who needs to spend a lot visiting a dermatologist when you can get the same results for less? or maybe even better. this is vmv's active treatment cosmeceuticals. i've been using it and it's simply amazing. microderm removes (a) dead outermost surface of the skin; (b) sun-damaged skin and (c) scars/dark spots.

Anti-oxidant 2-way Foundation - although a bit costly (1,000++ for 12g), it's worth every cent. the best foundation i have ever tried. you'll still look fresh at the end of the day and it doesn't cake. skin looks dewy even after a whole day spent inside airconditioned rooms. simply heaven-sent.

Pressed Powder - one size - 12g. they have two kinds: (1) so fine; and (2) so clear oil-absorbing. either of the two and you're good to go. the second one costs more but the difference is negligible.

Their pressed powders and foundations comes in a white, expensive-looking, chic and zippered case. You gotta love it.

Have It All Lip Bliss Lipstick - it's one of their bestsellers. Once I completely used up mine, I'm definitely buying another one. doesn't feel heavy on the lips and definitelt doesn't cause lip darkening.

I'm all raves for VMV. I have a very sensitive skin and this is the only cosmetic product I've tried that delivered as promised. It's really hypoallergenic. You won't regret it. VMV's always a great buy.

Treadmills

I'm thinking of buying one.

My hesitations:
1. The last time I checked the model that I want costs 70Th plus. By jeeves. I don't plan of having a treadmill for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

2. The monthly electricity bill is going to shoot up. Two hours of 1.5-2 HP everyday, or even every other day, and I'm dead meat.

Having it within the comforts of our home is a nice thought though :)

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Here's the Miley Cyrus version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Taking aside first the fact that it's Miley Cyrus, what do you think of the revival - Thumbs up or Thumbs Down?

I find it nice.

Uhm, I think I'll find it nice no matter what version it's been played anyways. It brings back the warmest memories of 2 girlfriends who sang and danced with me to this tune on my birthday. And we sang it like we mean it! ;p

Creating THE Illusion

8 Ways To Look Thinner by Jennifer Romolini. Great tips.

If there's 9th way: get a flattering haircut, one that's fit for your face shape.

It's always nice dolling up!

IRR of R.A. No. 7160

If you're looking for it, that makes 2 of us!

Either I'm sleepy or there really isn't any on the www, but no luck in securing on-line a copy of the IRR! Impossible if you'd ask me, but nevertheless frustrating. I tried looking for it at the web site of DILG. Nada.

If you have a soft copy of the IRR, e-mail me one. Thanks!

Fasten Your Seatbelts

The US Stock Market Crash is all over the news. When I read the reports yesterday morning, I phoned mom to have a chat about it.

Two weeks ago, as soon as news of the AIG and Lehman Brothers bankruptcy came out, I told her to make withdrawals and keep the money right where she can see it (not that we have much and the withdrawals are exactly because we don't have much! lol). Actually, she was a day late. When the news came out, I never had the urge to give her a call to advise her what to do (although it was at the back of my mind already) because back in 2001, during the political turmoil the country was suffering from, she instinctively knew what to do - off to the banks. I was surprised when, during dinnertime, she told me she didn't make a pullout (I almost choked!). When I asked her why, she said a relative said it's (the AIG/Lehman) not a worry for the Philippines. Huwaaat??? I told her otherwise and advised her to secure what she needs to secure. The following day, thank heavens, that was the first thing she did.

Then came the bailout plan. Mom asked me again if it's okay to relax. I said, "Nopes." The way I saw it, the bailout plan - son of Tarp (Troubled Asset Relief Programme) - can be likened to trying to revive someone who has been declared DOA. True enough, the plan was rejected (there must be some wisdom into that refusal to approve) PLUS there's the US/Europe scare over bank nationalization; hence the market crash (with losses of USD1.2 Trillion).

Reports had it too that the Philippines is safe from the US crash. Totally disagree. Since when has the Philippines been unaffected by whatever was happening out there? Besides, as of yesterday, in a blink of an eye, this issue has turned into fears of a "global crash" already. That massive.

I'm not an economist. Admitted. I rely on intuition AND I read the yearly horoscopes when New Year's sets in. Haha! No bull. When January 2008 ushered in (and I blogged about this in my old blog site), I read Pluto is entering Capricorn. When I read that, the first thing that came to mind was "earthly possessions" (Capricorn). Pluto, in the world of astrology, is the planet that rules "deep transformation". Add the two and you see economic crisis forthcoming. The wheel of fortune turns. Age-old institutions, be it economic/business, religious or political, will have to make way for new ones. New empires will emerge, old ones will collapse. Powers shift. I need not go into elaborate examples. If you've been reading the papers and/or have been feeling the crunch the past few months since the oil crisis, inflation, recession, etc., that's Pluto entering Capricorn.

Not everything you see from horoscopes, you believe. But when I read them, I went with whatever I felt. The first quarter of the year set in and I've been egging mom to sell the 2.0L SUV and to buy another fuel-efficient car. After months of praying (the SUV was of a brand that was difficult to market PLUS its re-sale value is dismal!), a buyer came along. A month after and we're more liquid. I was soooo happy! (my intuition was on the up and up)

Couldn't be happier at the moment, too, since I'm on to the last payment for a big purchase I made last year (using my credit card; 12-months-to-pay purchase). Just right on time for the current crisis. Oh, yeah, I don't think we'll be hearing the end of it. It's actually just the beginning. The BF says, since last week, the marketing team of 6 different banks have visited their office to woo the big boss into opening an account with them. And the boss says to them, "Napapadalas yata kayo ngayon ng bisita ah." (read between the lines hehe) Well, the old man's a living proof of the saying, "wisdom comes with age." ;) Course, he knows!

Well, anyways, my advice really is: help the government, save up, cost-cut and spend wisely. Whatever is bound to happen is going to happen. Praying (let us!) though that we'll get through this one as smoothly as possible. In the meantime, let's all buckle up.
