Chip Tsao

He has sparked an outrage. Betchaknowhy so no need for me to elaborate and be an accessory to his growing infamy. Lol If the Filipinos will retaliate against the Chinese residing here in the Philippines [because of the Chekua's article], that we have yet to see in the days ahead.

Anywho, THE BEST one-liner retort on this issue came from My Chauffeur who said, "That's what happens when a Chinese learns how to speak English."

Grocery-ing

With still a tinge of fever, I headed out of the house to buy toiletries at a nearby supermarket, Cherry Foodarama.

After 30 minutes, I find myself at the cashier. After 5 minutes of barcode swiping...WHOA.

I can't believe how much those little things amounted to! One small grocery bag is already worth a thousand. Neither I nor The BF guessed it right (Me: P700!/The BF: P800!). I looked at him and whispered, "Hun, there must be a mistake." Lol

It's not even the complete list of must-buys. I'm going to Hypermart at The Block this week for the rest.

I think I'm going to be more sick.

"Nicole"

On 8/24/08, I backtracked on this particular case - see "...Lance Corporal Daniel Smith and "Nicole"?"

Today, the victim's recantation is all over the news - see "Sworn Statement" of Suzette S. Nicolas ("Nicole").

I have always doubted Nicole's claim of having been raped that unfateful night. When I heard the news of her recanting and leaving for the US, I found myself saying, "She was telling the truth. She has been raped."

Just an educated guess.

TO "NICOLE", life is all about choices. I wish you a good life and I hope that you you find/have found your peace of mind.

"Nicole" left more questions than answers. Dig deeper if you must.

Pauline

This afternoon I spent time teaching a cousin, Pauline. She stays over our house every weekend.

My mother and aunt told me last night at the dinner table that Pauline is graduating (or "moving up") from nursery school with honors. Next year, she will be in Grade 1 at the start of the school year.

Pauline is 6 years old. She doesn't know the alphabet. Neither does she know how to count. And I don't know how to begin to describe what I am exactly feeling right now. Pauline is a smart and witty girl. She has a lot of potential and I hate to see all of it go to waste.

Pauline was born to a poor family. Her father is a company driver and her mother is working in a salon. None of these is a valid excuse for how Pauline is.

I believe that at the heart of overseeing a child's educational growth is, mostly, the responsibility of the mother.

For this weekend's lesson, I had 3 big posters readied and which I bought last Friday at the National Book Store - one is of the English Alphabet, another is of the Bagong Abakadang Filipino and the other is of Numbers 1-16. I asked one of the househelps to join us for the tutorials to simulate a classroom setting. I taught Pauline the letters A, B and C. Yes, just those letters and which Pauline could never seem to learn by heart. We were at it until my throat hurt.

I place a premium on education. Like Pauline, I grew up in a poor family, but my parents have NEVER EVER taken my studies for granted. They saw to it that I get the best possible schooling a child can have. They always told me, "We might not be able to leave you with anything when we go, but for as long as you have your degree, we can leave knowing you will survive without us."

Years passed and I am now a lawyer.

Whatever I have and presently enjoying and whoever I have become, that is because of EDUCATION and of RESPONSIBLE PARENTS. Nobody will have to endure poverty if you have had both.

Bejeezus, if you start a family, please do not do this to your own child.

I am disappointed and deeply...deeply...angered.

Pauline said she wanted to become a doctor.

Driver's License Renewal

I went undertime today to renew my driver's license which expired almost a month ago.

For those of you who are about to renew their DLs, instead of going to LTO branches, I suggest you go to Driver's License Renewal Centers (DLRCs). Would you believe I had my new DL in less than an hour! No lines, no queues.

There's a DLRC at SM North Edsa Car Park. They were having technical problems so we decided to transfer to the DLRC located at Araneta Square, Monumento instead. Thankfully, The BF insisted his way that we brave the bumper-to-bumper traffic along EDSA North-bound lane caused by the ongoing construction of LRT-3. Once you get past the U-turn slots at Macabagdal Street and Muñoz Avenue AND the speeding buses and jeepneys at Monumento Circle, you're okay. Lol Not to discourage, but try other DLRCs first if you're not ready for the most reckless of drivers as you approach the Circle.

Anywho, what really made my day was...ang ganda ng pic ko sa driver's license! Yay! I advise you to tell the photographer to count to three then SMILE! (Nevermind that they think you're such a prick. You'd carry that DL for 3 years so you better look good! :D) If you've had your picture taken in a LTO Branch, you'd know why I'm thrilled. They don't count but just click and click away and you end up looking like you just had a fistfight.

Pinoy

"Bakit ang Pinoy, hindi tama sumagot maski maayos ang tanong...

1. Kumain ka na? - Busog pa ako.
2. Nandyan ba nanay mo? - Bakit po?
3. Anong oras klase mo? - Mamaya.
4. San kayo galing? - Lumabas lang kami.
5. Paano mo ginawa yan? - Madali lang.
6. Bakit wala ka kahapon? - Absent ako.
7. Anong oras na? - Maaga pa.

And my favorite...

8. San ka na? - Malapit na ako, wait lang!"

Reading TSNs

I just took a break from reading TSNs (Transcript of Stenographic Notes).

Reading them reminded me of our recitations in law school. It's really pretty much the same. Inside the courtroom, the magistrate is the professor and you, you're now a licensed attorney...but still reciting. And just like your law school days, sometimes your recitation is stellar and sometimes, you want to bury your head from shame and embarrassment! That's life. You win some, you lose some. ;p

Ash Wednesday 2009

That was the day when I first declared publicly that "I'm a Roman Catholic by birth and a Theist by choice."

I have avoided that topic for the longest time, but on that day, to declare was unavoidable. People were asking why I won't attend the mass and line-up to get an ash placed on my forehead. And I said, "I don't believe in rituals. With all due respect."

Not much people know about being a theist. They actually said, "What?!? You're an Atheist?!?" Ahhh. You see why I don't want to talk about it? Lol I, myself, was unaware of what a theist is in 2006 and never bothered myself with it. After all, I stuck with being a Roman Catholic for all of my life. Let's just say, in 2007, I had the time to step back to take a glimpse of what I do and what I don't believe in.

A theist is a person who believes in god/s (monotheist/polytheist). I'm a monotheist. I believe in the existence of One Supreme Being/The Almighty.

I have never changed religion (I'm still a RC) and I'm not entertaining of making any changes at all. Faith has nothing to do with religion/religious institutions inasmuch as the universal languages of love, compassion, peace and benevolence don't make a distinction what race or culture you have been born into.

My declaration has certainly met some frowns. It's like I was talking Greek or has just landed from Pluto. Some reacted like what I said was blasphemous. Some moved inches away from me as if they are certain that I would be struck by lightning for earning the ire of their god. I saw the fear of hell/Hades in some. Lol

Right here, right now, I can enumerate the things that I don't believe in, but that is too argumentative for a topic that is in itself, by nature, prone to a heated discussion; hence, I'm more inclined to say what I believe in: I believe in God. I believe in Angels. I look up to Mother Teresa for the love that doesn't discriminate.

I believe that All is One.

Dogs and Dreaming

Sure, dogs dream, too (they even let out real nasty air!).

I've seen my pet dog bark, make jerky movements in her sleep and while at it, bump her head against the bookshelf. But I've got to hand it to Bizkit...

I suppose he was...errr...dog-tired? :D
